Is nothing ever enough?

Yeah. This basement is a birthday gift given to me some time ago. There is some kind of greediness evident in this miniature business of mine, I must admit. Sometimes I even find myself dreaming of NEW houses. And believe me, there's barely enough space for this one, not to mention finishing it first. Well, it is to be seen what I come up with this new beautiful part of the house. Jam jars and something gloomy, perhaps? I have done some other things for the house too, and some bigger dolls, but I will do a separate post about those some time soon..

I thank you for your comments on previous posts, making it worthwhile to continue sharing my passion!

Revealing Art

A warm welcome to my new readers!

Tässä on siskontyttöni lahjoittama helmi muutettuna ylellisyystarvikkeeksi.

This is the bead my niece gave me,
transformed to a luxury item.

I bought an unfinished mantelpiece after getting tired of  being so indecisive about the fireplace. And I am glad that I did since otherwise this project would not have gone forward. The brick wall is made of air dry clay, and I carved the stone base on thick cardboard. The electrified embers look somehow awkward when   switched off. I could probably do something about it if I'd dare to poke the embers.

Suosittelen!

I'm not much of a chess player, but in Rotting Roof chess is among the favorite pastimes. So I made them a table for their chess board. To be a complete set, it still needs a couple of stools and a permanent place in the house. I found the chessboard from a local boutique.

Tuunailin valmishuonekaluja rujommiksi hiomapaperin ja maalin avulla. Pöytään tein uudet laatikot, kun alkuperäisiä esitti puupalikat... Vielä pitäisi ruhjoa kirjaston rulokirjoituspöytä samaan tyyliin. Mielestäni tuo kiiltävä punainen pinta ei oikein sovi talon tunnelmaan.

These two pieces needed some destroying, so I sandpapered them and threw some paint on. And since that table's idea of a drawer was a wooden block, I made new drawers. I still need to "renew" the writing desk in the library. It looks too new, red and shiny to fit in this house.

Writing desk still intact.. Waiting for the sandpaper

I made this for gardening tools

I had to make my own miter box..
Wouldn't bet on it's accuracy.

And now I get to show you the new painting! I had to make a miter box first so I could have the painting framed. I like it a lot. I brings nice eerie ambiance in the room. But oh boy, it was difficult to photograph. And still it doesn't look just like it looks in real. Art needs to be experienced with your own eyes, doesn't it? I had hard time deciding which photos to choose, so I chose them all. Pleace click the pictures to see them bigger! The name of the painting is Mother's chest of drawers. I had some difficulties translating the name.. First I was going to go with Mother's Drawers, but I found out that 'drawers' mean long underpants.. Is that true? And Mother's Chest does not sound right either. English is fun! Ok, enough of that. You can find more about the artist here: www.anttiraatikainen.com Unfortunately, it's only in Finnish, but you can see his work by clicking "this" link.

Spring Ahead! ..or Head on A Spring..

Later on, there will be an explanation for the word play of the headline.. But before that.. I cut a freebie mouse pad in pieces and made a top hat. Quick and easy! And I'm very satisfied with the result. This material is rubbery and slightly flexible, therefore it stays well on his head. I glued some ribbon as a decoration on the hat. There's plenty more left of that mouse pad, and just by changing the color of the ribbon I can make a hat for every occasion..

Vietin taannoin viikon koiranhoitajana siskoni luona.

Some time ago I spent a week at my sister's home. She bought a super cute silky terrier-puppy and I was the dogsitter while my sister was working. I also got to spend some time with my soon to be seven year old niece, who is very dear to me. We spent couple of days with a big pot of salt-dough, and my niece made a banana and a candle from it, for me!! My sister had also knitted some warm clothing for the skeleton, this time in white, and a bit smaller sized. I'm so thankful for these tiny objects, and every time I see them in the house, I remember my sister and her beautiful daughter..

White scarf and stylish furry hat made by my sister!

A candle and a banana made by my 6 year old niece!
Aren't those adorable!

I baked a cake which I'll probably repaint..

Siskoni kotikaupungista löytyy aivan ihana nukkekoti- ja lelukauppa, jossa on pakko käydä törsäämässä rahaa aina kun mahdollista! Tällä kertaa ostin sieltä mm. ompelukoneen, kahvisetin ja metalliset keittiövälineet telineen kera.

Near my sister's home there is a lovely shop, where they sell old toys and dollhouse-stuff, and I'm forced to spend some money there when ever I have the opportunity! This time I bought a sewing machine, a coffee set and some kitchenware with a rack, among other things.

I am totally amazed over the fact that there's so many people wanting to participate in my dollhouse! The picture below shows some stuff my boyfriend's mother had collected for me! (Apart from the pink plastic heart, my niece gave it to me and I promised to make a perfume bottle from it) It's amazing how someone's thrash can be the most appreciated gift for somebody else, becoming a treasured memory among others. Just like in a real home, things in the dollhouse can possess meaning, and can be memories of the important people in your life.

Ja nyt pääsemme siihen otsikon sanaleikkiin.. Tämä projekti pysyy keskeneräisenä kunnes keksin millaisen pään teen vieteriukolle. Laatikko on paksua pahvia, saranana maalarinteippiä, ja jousi on mustekynästä. Päällystin laatikon nahkaa muistuttavalla paperilla.

And now we get to the wordplay in the headline.. This project will remain unfinished until I'm able to decide what kind of a head is Jack going to get. The box is made of thick cardboard, hinge is tape and the spring is from a dried out fountain pen. I found some leather resembling paper to cover the box with.

Ja lopuksi jotain odotettavaa.. Ostin Rotting Roofin ruokasalin seinälle aivan oikean taideteoksen aivan oikealta taiteilijalta. Työ on vielä kehyksiä vailla, ja takkakin puuttuu ruokasalista, joten joudumme hetken odottelemaan taulun paljastamista.. En malttaisi itsekään oikein odottaa!

And then there is a teaser for all of us. I bought a real painting from a real artist, to be hanged on the dining room's wall. It still needs to be framed, and I need to do the fireplace in the dining room first. This means we will have to wait a bit for the revealing of the painting. I couldn't wait for myself!

We have seen it!

I Want You To Meet Someone..

En hennoisi antaa otuksen elää yksinäisenä Rotting Roofissa, joten kavereita on tehtävä pikimmiten.. En tiedä kaverin nimeä enkä lajia, tokko saan koskaan tietääkään? Täytyy toivoa että taloon muuttaa joku eläin-asiantuntija.

I want you to meet someone who's been crawling in the shadows of the house for a while, making it impossible to take a picture of him.. What makes these small beings so afraid of the camera? He/she/it lives in the house, hides in a small paper box and hopes to have some friends in the house. I made this one out of  pipe-cleaner, eyes are black stamen, and fingers are yarn. The paper box is a print which I glued together. I don't wan't him to be lonely, so I have to make buddies for him.. I don't know his name or species, maybe I'll never know? Hopefully some kind of an animal expert is going to rent a room here..

Busted!!
Captured for a close-up..
Instead of making, I seem to be just painting furniture..
Maybe this one needs to be painted too..
Or aged somehow.
The hallway. I altered the phone a bit by paint
and adding some bits..
Do you think that this room needs a fireplace?
I just had to play a little..

This has been keeping me busy..
Sillä aivan mielettömän hienothan nuo on!

And last but not least, my sister has a wicked sense of humor.. =D
She made a scarf and a woolly hat for the skeleton.. And for some diabolical reason, they are pink of all the colors of the world.. But he's kind of cute though.. And probably he's very glad that these are a bit too big for him. Maybe one of the other future residents is not that picky? Because pink or not, these are such a lovely pieces of clothing! And extra clothing is really needed now, it's nearly -30°C where I live..

And besides clothing, there are some new followers warming my heart! WELCOME!

Back in Business!

My laptop died just before Christmas, but is working again thanks to the computer-wizards living in my house! <3 Therefore I can show you what I've been up to, and a bit of others doings as well.

My brother made the hull for the the bed below, and left all the fun parts for me! Like gluing on the legs and decorations and painting the bed.

Ompelin sänkyyn patjan ja pari pikkutyynyä, ja siskoni virkkasi kuvassa näkyvän ihanan, ruskean päiväpeiton! Kokeilin krakleerauslakkaa sänkyyn ja lopputuloksesta tuli ihan kiva!

I sewed a mattress and a couple of pillows, and my sister crocheted the beautiful brown bed spread for me! I tried crackling varnish on the bed and liked the result! Click the picture to see it closer..

A hint for my sis: Rotting Roof is a very chilly place.
So maybe socks and scarfs and shawls and..  =D

Rotting Roofin arkkitehti suunnitteli suuressa viisaudessaan portaat olohuoneeseen!

Rotting Roofs Architect, in his great wisdom, designed stairs for the living room! He left the assembling and painting to me. One more stairs to do, and it will be relatively easy to move around the house.

Not yet glued..
I love it!!
The living room.
And a proof of my messiness..
I painted some bought things..
..and made the grey shelf  from balsa and  other
wooden bits.

Instead of making, I shamelessly bought the bookcase for the library. It was cheap. It needed just a little operation to fit the room. In some state of the operation, I started to feel a bit stupid. The saw blade was not deep enough, it didn't reach through the bookcase. Luckily I was able to gnaw the thing with a craft knife just enough to snap the halves apart..

I was lucky not to break the whole thing!
Liimasin istutustikuista uudet seinät puuttuvien tilalle, laitoin vähän koristelistaa ja maalasin.

I glued on new back boards where they were missing, put on some decorative trimming and painted the whole thing.

I glued wooden squares for support..

Now all it's missing, is a huge pile of books and decorative objects. The brown shawl on the chair is also made by my sister.

I cut this rug from my old shirt..
Ja nämä kissanpennut ostin Doloreksesta. Yritin maalata vekkulit muistuttamaan omiamme..

I bought these kittens from Dolores. I tried to paint them to resemble our own three cats..

And again I found new readers! Welcome and thank You for reading my blog!!
